Indications:
Riluzole is indicated for the treatment of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Riluzole extends survival and/or time to tracheostomy.
Riluzole is indicated off label use for the treatment of Huntington's Chorea.
Dosage and Administration:
Adults and geriatric:
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS): 50 mg PO twice daily.
Huntington's Chorea (off label use): 100 mg PO twice daily is considered the target dose.
Maximum dosage: 100 mg/day PO for ALS; 200 mg/day PO off-label for Huntington's Chorea.
Riluzole tablets should be taken at least an hour before, or two hours after, a meal to avoid a food-related decrease in bioavailability.
Contraindication:
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
Hepatic disease or baseline transaminases greater than 3 times the upper limit of normal.
Patients who are pregnant or breast-feeding.
